Press Release

Kraken Expands Open Kraken with AI Access Layer and a Marketplace to Help Utilities Build for the Agentic Era

  • Kraken announces a headless AI access layer leveraging MCP enabled gateways, giving clients a new way to connect 3rd party AI agents and applications to Kraken data and compliant workflows
  • New Marketplace connects utilities with a vibrant community of innovators delivering third-party integrated apps that extend the value of the Kraken operating system
  • The expansion supports Kraken’s strategy to give utilities a unified operating system with the agility to build, partner and innovate without vendor lock-in

London / New York – 11 June 2026 – Kraken, the AI-powered operating system for utilities, today announced the next major expansion of Open Kraken including its gradual release of a new AI access layer and the launch of Kraken Marketplace. Together, this gives utilities more ways to build, partner and innovate on Kraken without vendor lock-in.

Open Kraken is Kraken’s long-standing strategy to make its operating system more extensible for utilities, partners and, increasingly, AI agents.

With this expansion, Open Kraken, now advances in two complementary ways: Marketplace gives clients a simpler way to bring trusted partner and utility-built solutions into Kraken, while the AI access layer will give a secure, standardized way to connect 3rd party AI agents to Kraken’s utility-grade data and workflows by leveraging Kraken’s rich market-specific compliance actions and business logic.

Together, these features build on Kraken’s existing extensibility investments including Embedded Apps, Flows, APIs and events.

AI Foundation for Utilities

Through this expansion, Kraken is committing to enable clients’ own AI agents and applications to access Kraken safely and securely. As part of this, Kraken is gradually releasing MCP gateways, creating a governed access layer for clients and partners to connect AI to Kraken data, workflows and actions. It builds on the same engine Kraken is already using inside its platform, and will help utilities move from AI pilots to AI operations without being locked into a single model, vendor or roadmap.

That matters because the next phase of utility AI is not about isolated use cases. It is about scaling AI across regulated, operational workflows. Kraken is built exactly for that future, and is designed with data and agents at the centre of its architecture. Its unified utility data model and workflow engine sit at the centre of the customer, billing, metering, tariff, interactions, financials, asset optimization and operational journeys utilities run every day, giving AI the live context, governed execution and utility-specific logic it needs to support real work.

“Utilities are making platform decisions today that will define how ready they are for AI over the next decade,” said Amir Orad, CEO of Kraken. “They need more than a system of record and more than built-in AI. They need a trusted operating system with deep utility context, enterprise-grade controls and a full commitment to an open ecosystem around it. Kraken gives clients that foundation without locking them into a closed technology model.”

A Utility Marketplace

Kraken Marketplace gives utilities a simpler way to discover trusted, utility-specific solutions that integrate to, and complement Kraken across the value chain. The curated catalogue brings together third-party solutions, Kraken native built tools, and innovations built by other utilities. It gives clients more agility, faster innovation, and greater choice while keeping Kraken at the centre of their customer, operational and energy workflows.

For clients, Marketplace expands choice without adding complexity. For partners, it creates a scalable route into the growing global client base. For utilities building on Kraken, it creates a new way to share selected innovations with the wider ecosystem.

“Utilities don’t need more fragmented technology,” added Orad. “They need a faster, safer way to extend the operating system they already rely on. Kraken Marketplace, as part of Open Kraken, gives clients the agility to build, buy and partner on Kraken and creates the foundation for AI agents to operate with the context, controls and reliability utilities require.”
